Rice a Roni with Pastrami and Boudin
Good ole rice a roni. Good for summer cause it takes 20 minutes for a one pot meal.
I break up angel hair pasta and smash it with a wooden pepper mill in a glass measuring cup. You need a total of 2 cups rice and pasta. Most recipes use more rice, I prefer more roni.
2 tablespoons butter, and about 1 of bacon fat. Get fat melted and throw in the rice, and brown for about 10 minutes until the roni is golden. Near the end, throw in 3-4 diced garlic cloves, then 1 small diced onion, a tablespoon of parsely, teaspoon of sugar. Bit of Kitchen Bouquet (caramel coloring) to make it pretty, and a couple drops toasted sesame oil. Be careful, because that can totally overtake the flavor.
Liquid time: Whatever broth you want. I use 1 can consomme, then water to total 2 cups. Soy sauce, shrimp powder, bullion, amino acids, whatever sounds good.
Meat: Today was smoked pastrami from my local butcher shop. Good stuff!
Simmer 20 minutes covered
Bonus: Picked up some boudin blanc sausage too, 20 minutes at 300 in the steam oven. Finishing, handsful of sliced green onion.
